Character AI
Backstory creation prompts can reveal history in layers, which keeps a roleplay from turning into a one-time biography dump. Start with a present-day object, habit, or place that points toward a past event. Let the character choose what to share.
“Play a watchmaker who has repaired the same pocket watch three times for three different owners. I bring it in again, but this time there is a note under the casing. Tell me what your character recognizes, what memory the object brings back, and what you are not ready to explain yet. Ask whether I have seen the note before.”
“You are a retired expedition guide helping me sort old maps. One name has been carefully crossed out on every version. Explain what you remember about the journey, but distinguish your memory from what the map proves. Let me decide whether to ask about the person or the route.”
Give the history a consequence: a promise, skill, fear, or unfinished task.
