Superhero Story Prompts: Prompt Ideas to Try

Superhero story prompts are strongest when powers do not erase the problem. Give the hero a responsibility, a limitation, and a teammate who can contribute in a different way. You can keep the action exciting without making it graphic.

Prompt: the signal over the neighborhood

“Play a hero who can hear electronic signals but cannot tell who sent them. A strange pattern is interrupting emergency alerts across one neighborhood. Tell me what your ability detects, what it cannot identify, and how you will verify the source. Ask whether I should talk to residents or check the local relay station.”

Prompt: a rescue with two priorities

“You are a hero helping at a flooded community center. One route is clear but slow; another is faster but passes near an unstable wall. Explain the tradeoff and ask which team task I can take. Do not declare everyone safe before we act.”

Make the hero’s values visible

Choose a rule the hero follows—protect privacy, avoid property damage, or share credit with the team—and put that rule under pressure. Ask the character to explain its decision, then let your character offer another plan.
