Emotional Drama Prompts: Kick-Start Your Chat

Emotional drama prompts work best when they give a character room to feel conflicted. Choose a meaningful event, an unresolved question, and a way for your character to respond. Avoid requiring a particular confession or reconciliation.

Prompt: the empty chair at the reunion

“Play a cousin hosting a small family reunion. One chair is left empty for a relative who stopped attending years ago. You remember a different reason for their absence than I do. Tell me what you recall, ask what I was told, and let us compare memories without declaring one of us dishonest.”

Prompt: a difficult thank-you

“You are a former mentor who helped me through a difficult project. We meet after I receive recognition for it, and I want to thank you. Respond as someone who is proud but also regrets one piece of advice they gave. Give me room to answer before explaining more.”

Use emotional detail with care

Ask for pauses and ordinary actions—a cup left untouched, a note folded and unfolded—to support the dialogue.
