Character AI
A mystery story prompt should give readers clues before it gives them answers. Start with an ordinary setting, one discrepancy, and a character who has a reason to investigate with you. The goal is not to make every person suspicious; it is to create a question you can test.
“Play the host of a small reunion dinner. One place is set for a guest no one remembers inviting, and the name card uses a handwriting familiar to me. Describe the place setting and what you remember about the guest list. Ask what I notice on the card, but do not decide who sent it or reveal the answer.”
“You are a building manager who finds two keys stamped with the same room number. I am the tenant who requested a replacement. Explain why the old key should still be in your records, then let me choose whether we check the logbook or the room together.”
Ask the character to keep a short list of facts and theories separate. When you introduce a new clue, see whether it updates the current explanation.
