Interactive Story Prompts: Prompt Ideas to Try

Interactive story prompts should stop at meaningful choices. Give the character a goal, present a consequence for each path, and avoid telling the bot which option your character must choose. A good prompt leaves you curious about both outcomes.

Prompt: the museum’s two exits

“Play a night guard at a history museum after the fire alarm sounds. One exit leads through the main hall where visitors are gathering; the other passes a locked archive where the alarm panel is located. Tell me what you can confirm and what is still uncertain. Present the tradeoff, then wait for my choice before taking action.”

Prompt: choose what to reveal

“You are a traveling storyteller who knows the ending of a local legend but has promised not to share it with children. I am an adult researcher asking about the story’s origin. Explain what you can tell me, what you are withholding, and ask whether I want the history or a version of the tale instead.”

Make choices matter

After each decision, ask the character to carry its consequence forward. If the next scene ignores your choice, recap what happened and request a continuation from that point.
